Year-End Mandatory Training Requirements

The Staff Development Unit (SDU) is responsible for oversight and tracking of departmental compliance with State and departmental mandatory training requirements. This is a reminder that the deadline for completing the following year-end trainings is nearing and any impacted staff who have not yet completed these trainings must complete them by December 31, 2020.

All Department of Rehabilitation (DOR) employees who have not yet completed following annual trainings as of January 1, 2020, are required to complete them by December 31, 2020:

  • Fraud Awareness Training (FPT) – Required to be completed upon hire, then every year thereafter
  • Health and Safety Program Certification – Required to be completed upon hire, then every year thereafter
  • Information Security and Privacy Awareness Training (ISPAT) – Required to be completed upon hire, then every year thereafter

DOR employees who have not completed the following biennial training as of January 1, 2019, are required to complete it by December 31, 2020:

  • Ethics (for designated Conflict of Interest positions) – Required to be completed within six months of hire and every 2 years thereafter from the date of last completion.
  • Sexual Harassment Prevention Training (SHPT) (for Non-Supervisory and Supervisory employees) – Required to be completed within six months of hire, then every two (2) years thereafter from the date of last completion. Volunteers, interns and graduate assistants are required to complete SHPT within 30 days of hire, then every two (2) years thereafter from the date of last completion.

Additionally, DOR employees who are currently redirected to the Contact Tracing Program are still required to complete the mandatory trainings by the deadline outlined above. There have been no authorized waivers or extensions granted according to the California Department of Human Resources and the State Personnel Board. The California Department of Public Health, Contact Tracing Program Coordinators have reminded the Contact Tracing Supervisors to allow DOR employees sufficient time to complete the mandatory trainings during regular work hours.

We appreciate your patience with the late notifications and reminders issued this year for mandatory annual and biennial trainings for DOR staff. As part of the DOR’s Training Plan for the upcoming year, SDU will be issuing notifications for mandatory year-end trainings to DOR employees no later than fall of 2021.

If employees have questions not addressed in this memo, they are encouraged to contact the Staff Development Unit at STFDEV@dor.ca.gov.
